During the period of the 17th CIFIT, International Investment Forum 2013 was held in Xiamen international exhibition center on the morning of September 8. The forum features the theme of “Global Value Chain Restructuring and Innovative Development”. Vice-premier Ma Kai and Commerce vice Minister Wang Chao attended the forum and delivered a speech.
Mr. Wang Chao says that global economy is slowly recovering at the moment and most countries are facing tasks of boosting economy, adjusting structures and improving people’s livelihood.
He stresses that international investment is an important engine to pull economy recovery and an important link to strengthen win-win cooperation around the globe as well. The global value chains, led by the transnational corporations, have contributed a lot to the world economy. After the international financial crisis, all the countries attach more importance to push economic development by technology innovation. International division of labor system tends to be with more divisified production layout and globalization of R&D becomes popular. The restructuring of global value chain proves to be more outstanding. International investment is an important way to join the restructuring of global value chain, upgrade industry and make technological progress, especially for the developing countries.
Mr. Wang Chao said that this forum is an expression that China would like to joint efforts with the rest of the world to promote investment worldwide, deepen global value chain cooperation, improve the level of innovative development, and enhance the driven force of global economy recovery. Ministry of Commerce will take proactive measures to provide better service and safeguard for both the inbound and outbound investment, and to put China’s international investment and cooperation into a high level, so as to be able to participate in global value chain in a broader and higher level.
In the forum, Vice premier of the Republic of Namibia, Mr. Rob Davies, trade and industry minister of South African, Mr. Mukhisa Kituyi, secretary-general of UNCTAD, Mr. Rintaro Tamaki, deputy secretary-generalof OECD, Mr. Lin Yifu, Honorary President of National School of Development, PKU, Mm Feng Guiting, vice president of IFC, World Bank and vice president of Seagate Company all were at present and delivered a lecture. Mr. Cheng Hong, Deputy Editor-in-chief of CCTV also attended the forum and gave a speech.
This forum is co-hosted by Ministry of Commerce and CCTV. More than 1,000 people, including government officers, people from industry and business, and representatives of international organizations around more than 100 countries and regions attended the forum.
